DUTY WITH MEANING
By Luis Sexto

Is it enough sense of duty is sufficient for individuals and communities to be reconciled with society and its rules? I refer in particular to the obligations of work, reflected in an agreement, sometimes tacitly, in which two parties: the contractor and the contractor, undertake to "fulfill their duty."

Usually we cultivate a sense of duty as a fetish before which to prostrate without conditions. So much so that even when someone tries to justify some ugly action, go to that reason must be beyond doubt: "I have done my duty", but a reputation soiled by any nonsense or an overwhelming desire to damage.

There are philosophers for whom the sense of duty means a "categorical imperative", others think contrary: they believe that the duty as well, period, not very far to the generality of mankind. In any case leads to produce rigid people, without qualification, half automata.

Between the two concepts is obvious that this writer is left with the duty understood relatively. Not little, not much. The fair, the need for society to be a conglomerate of free men. That is, men and women who voluntarily choose to do his duty.

Between us has proven that the drives must climb the ladder of heroism. But those who arrive are the least. Heroes are not the figures most abundant. Behind every act of heroism, there are myriads of actions cowardly, half done or never done. A measure of the common and ordinary. That we're just about everyone. I think that Marti thought that way when admitted, and I quote the idea did not exactly point that few men could carry the honor of many.

Of course, we aspire to hero. Aspiring to Don Quixote, "as someone said I have forgotten, to stay in Sancho, that is, beat Rocinante.

Now, if we really want to aspire to the hero, or at least law-abiding citizen, regulations and contracts, it takes as much as a sense of duty, that duty makes sense. The most cursory study of psychology and human tendencies confirms that, to live, things must have a meaning. Labour, one might ask. Well, to eat. And eating what. Man, to live. And live for what ... to work? The answer to this last question may be multiple, one extreme of one side or the other. More correct is the one in the middle. Not so for the right or both left. At the point of balance, according to a Chinese thinker is not a position but the struggle to avoid falling. Perhaps the exact answer to the question of what life has given you a psychologist Spanish-Mira and Lopez, as I recall, which integrated all of these purposes and which is to be live to work, and eat, and know and together, to deserve to live happy.

These lines may appear a mystery who do not. Only relate to the problems and solutions that have sought and still seek some institutions eliminate indiscipline and the loss of rigor in our workplaces. And finally I believe that along with the restoration of a sense of duty required that the duty has moral and material. And so, besides the code of obligations, the country needs a stimulus to revive the dream of working for a living
